Today I learned about Skiffle. I thought I’d like it for some reason.
I don’t.
This is what Rock’n Roll would be if the Red Coats won.
The closest thing to skiffle that still lives is The Fall, a Very British Band™ is there ever was one.
I like The Fall. Well, some of what I’ve heard. They have a LOT of songs and I’ve only heard a few. They’re like one of those bands that has put out an album every year since the 70s. It’s a bit daunting.
So… what makes them Skiffle? Does it have to do with a folk influence? I don’t listen to a lot of Folk music, so am I just not hearing the connection?
Yeah, the folk influence and they way they tend to just hammer on one riff over and over, even for the chorus.
Proto Stoner Drone?
in a weird way (because of the repetition of one beat/riff) I feel like the torch is kinda sorta being carried by Sleaford Mods
Danggit! I’m oogling Suicide Girls, I’ll get to this in a minute
Itz awl roight
Ok, homework is done. I… think I learned something!!
Please listen top to bottom:
SKIFFLE RIFFLE (Lonnie Long Gone Version)
SKIFFLE RIFFLE (The Velvet Underground & MEco Version)
SKIFFLE RIFFLE (The Fall Version)
FAVORITE?
- LONNIE LONG GONG
- THE VELVET UNDERGROUND AND MECO
- THE FALL
Before the 50s, the riff was based on trains, after the 50s, it was V8 engines. Lots of classic rock has a V8 exhaust rumble
Yeah, that’s what hit me when he said they “hammer on.” I thought of like… A driving Johnny Marr train chug and it all made sense!
