Auf deutsch, dass meint ā€œa little Goete, a little Bonaparteā€- Sheā€™s singing about me.

Poupee De Cire, etc is one of my faves, but youā€™ll notice that in this live performance, she actually flubs the first two notes  Itā€™s cute, if not as pristine as the recorded version, but still a good performance otherwise! I think this was from Eurovision, wasnā€™t it? And then the whole story behind Les Sucettes and how she was wondering why everyone showed up to watch the performanceā€¦ and then how mortified and disillusioned she was when she found outā€¦ Oof! Heartbreaking. Iā€™m guessing youā€™ve definitely seen the video where Serge asked her what the song was about, followed by his reaction to her answer?

Thanks for this, Harry! I think she really was the overall best of the (ye-ye) bunch. A real star and the perfect one for the era.

She was too cute for me to notice or care. I used to watch ALL of her old footage over and over on youtuber when I was supposed to be reading heavy french authors in college. On paper, my major was French, in practice it was Yeye!

I havenā€™t seen that video, post it.

Serge was a sleaze. And a bit overrated if you ask me.

Yeah, itā€™s terrible. I canā€™t find it, but, essentially, heā€™s curious about how innocent she is (VERY innocent, as it turns out), and he asks her ā€œAnd Les Sucettes, what is that one about?ā€ And sheā€™s like, ā€œUm, well, itā€™s a silly songā€¦ Thereā€™s a girl, and she likes candy, and she takes her pennies down to the store to buy lollypops, and, umā€¦ Thatā€™s it. Right??ā€

And Serge takes a long, deep breath and nods and says, ā€œā€¦Riiiighht.ā€

So, she still didnā€™t know. And when she went to film the video, she noticed that instead of just the film crew and a few people showing up, like normal, there was quite the turnout for it. And afterwards, sheā€™s wondering, ā€œWhy the hell did all those people show up to hear me sing that stupid song about candy?ā€ And then someone told her, andā€¦ It just ruined everything. She felt humiliated and used. No more were boys just the counterpart to girls. No more were men just older gentlemen and kindly uncle types. They were all just gross pigs. And producers were just assholes who take advantage of you. It ruined her ability to trust people on so MANY levels. It sounds like the kind of thing people would think is funny, but certainly not when it affected her so terribly. It was really unfortunate.

Sweet! 7 AM by Jacqueline Taieb is another favourite. Especially the English version. ā€œCanā€™t find my toothbrush. Where on earth can it BE?!ā€

I miss the 60s. Tres bien

Dont forget those were the days when it was okay for men to molest women and children

Was it though?

Yeah, before the womens movement of the 70s men could get away with anything. Remember it wasnt until now that Harvey Weinstein went to jail, Epstein, Jared from Subway, Charlie Rose, Matt Lauer, CBS boss Moonves, all those guys, even Trump. ā€œYou can do what you wantā€ and they did. Hef was a very naughty boy. And there are still stupid young men claiming to be ā€œalphasā€ because of BS web influencers and asshole fathers. Personally, Iā€™m glad Reddit banned me. Itā€™s as bad as twitshow now. For every nice community like lowerdecks, thereā€™s backwoods redneck trolls 90%. I dont even post art to IG anymore because kids that didnt get punched in the face as Iron Mike says, they grow up to be men who need bones broken. Some people only learn if they touch the hot pan on the stove

I dispute that all men were rapist domestic violencers before the womenā€™s movement. And I dissagree that some men arenā€™t rapist domestic violencers now. I donā€™t think women are innocent either.

As for ā€˜me tooā€™ and all that, Weinstein basically got away with it. I believe he was publically and vocally a feminist. Thatā€™s why I donā€™t trust male feminists.

In my personal life, I think about certain female friends Iā€™ve had. Iā€™ve noticed, and iā€™ve had this confirmed by other women- but men who are REALLY vocal about being ā€˜alliesā€™ and feminists, are more likely to be abusive to their female partners. Iā€™ve known guys who were SUPER progressive and egalitarian on their facebook profiles a/o irl profile, yet at the same time threatened their girlfriends with knives.
